Boston LISC is pleased to announce that Lawrence Community Works (LCW) and the Lawrence Police Department (LPD) are the recipients of the 2009 MetLife Foundation Community Police Partnership!

A committee of police chiefs and community development corporations from across the country selected the LCW-LPD partnership from a pool of 650 applicants as part of LISC’s National Community Safety Initiative. As the first place winners, Lawrence Community Works and Lawrence Police Department will share a $25,000 award. LCW and LPD were recognized for their willingness to collaborate with each other and engage residents in the discussion of issues concerning their neighborhood.

LISC’s Community Safety Initiative is a national program that supports building long-term partnerships between police departments, community developers, local business owners, and residents in troubled neighborhoods to reduce crime and improve quality of life. By targeting law enforcement and community development resources in the same place, CSI gives residents and police the ability to transform their neighborhoods into stronger, healthier places to live and do business.

On hand for the September 28, 2009 ceremony LISC were Boston LISC’s executive director Bob Van Meter, national LISC Community Safety Director Julia Ryan, Lawrence Police Chief John Romero and Bill Traynor and Jess Andors from Lawrence Community Works.
